Financial Freedom and You

by Cash Flow Accounting on August 2, 2012

My last two blog posts dealt with a window that has just opened that levels the playing field on a cool way to make money (The End of the Age of the Geeks) and predictions about why you’re going to need to make money (Prediction about Social Security & Medicare) .

Now let’s talk about your why. Why do you want to make money? And if you’re looking for a way to make passive income, what does that mean to you? Why is that important?

Richard and I had a high income from real estate and businesses from the early 200s and then had a big crash in 2008. From that low financial point at the end of 2008, we were back to financial freedom August 22, 2010.

Since that time, we’ve been building our passive cash flow and creating additional streams, so we’re more secure if something happens again. We’re also building inside our pension plans, creating tax-deferred and tax free income.

The big question we’ve been grappling with lately is what’s next. We’ve got the money we need, a house we love, a charity we’re active in (both with money and time) and multiple businesses and investments again.

So we’ve taken on a challenge to build a business ground up with online marketing. My buddy Leslie Rohde (SEOBrainTrust) talks about his clients who go from zero to 6 figures with a website in 18 months or less. And he also says his best clients are the ones who older Gen X or Baby Boomers (like me). I like building businesses and I love the idea of starting from the beginning and doing it online. In a few months, we’re taking some time off, driving down Baja California. We’ll be checking in at wifi spots every couple of days. I want this all rolling by then, so the money from the venture pays for the trip and we can do whatever work we do when we travel.

So that’s my next thing. Why? Because it’s fun. Because I like to challenge myself. Because it’s freeing to know that no matter what, we can bounce back.
